Coming through the ranks at Ajax Academy, De ligt spent eight fruitful years developing at Ajax. His huge impact and performance caught the eye of the then Ajax senior team manager, Erik Ten Haag. In doing so, he signed his first professional contract at Ajax, promoting him to the Ajax senior team in 2016. His quality was undisputed as he continued his fine form in the senior team , impressing his senior teammates and also the coaches and staff’s in the club. He had a successful spell playing for the senior team for four years and winning couple of domestic silverwares, not forgetting his outstanding and impressive performance in the UEFA Champions League as Ajax knocked out Cristiano Ronaldo, Juventus side to secure a semifinal spot in 2019. His performance against Juventus caught the attention of Juventus representative’s, making them swoop for him in the summer of 2019.

Matthijs De ligt made a big money move to the Serie A giant for the total sum of £68m plus add ons, making him the most expensive transfer in the club’s history. He struggled to make instant impact for the Old Ladies, but began to rise up to the occasion. He won trophies at Juventus and also became fans favourite. He spent three years playing for the Old Ladies.

Just recently,the summer transfer window for 2022 opened. Teams have been making some recruitment to strengthen their squad. Matthijs De ligt, was once again in the picture as speculations concerning his future grew stronger. Several teams registered interest in the central defender, including Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and others, but the Dutch central defender had his mind made up on moving to Bayern Munich.

The new Club Football season is upon us, we will observant to witness how some other transfer speculations will take place and also be watchful of Bayern Munich new central defender, Matthijs De Ligt.

The just concluded English Premier League Season began on the 12th of August,2021 with Liverpool FC looking to mount a serious title challenge on all fronts, including domestic competitions as well as Europe best elite tournament,the UEFA Champions League.

Despite not making any marquee signings in the summer of 2021, Liverpool FC kicked off the EPL season with victories over Norwich City,Leeds United, Watford and Burnley respectively.They went on to play a disappointing 1-1 draw against Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea side,who received a Red Card during the game, whilst Liverpool were unable to capitalise on the event of the day.They went on winning several matches before playing the defending champions, Manchester City at Anfield.The game ended in a 4 goal thriller, leaving both sides to share the spoils.This period,the UCL campaign began and Liverpool FC were invisible as they swept away all the teams in their group.They made sure they didn’t lose a single game during the UCL group stage.

One of the biggest takeaway from last season, was the enormous victory over Manchester United At Old Trafford.Liverpool FC mesmerised and destroyed Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Man United side 5-0.This victory saw Mohammed Salah scoring an hattrick, assisted with single goals from Diogo Jota and Naby Keita, respectively.The EPL first half of the season continued for Liverpool as they dropped valuable points against Brighton, West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur.Then came the Merseyside Derby with Everton.As expected Liverpool defeated Everton 4-1.Liverpool Carabao Cup journey began and they made it to the semi final

Subsequently,we witnessed the end of year 2021 and began the year 2022.The Winter transfer window opened for teams to strengthen their squad for the reminder of the season.Liverpool signed Porto winger, Luiz Diaz to strengthen their attack as they look to perform well in the second half of the season.Unfortunately, Liverpool were 14 points behind Manchester City in January 2022.It looked like the title challenge was over for Liverpool FC.Jurgen Klopp side defeated Arsenal in the semi final of the Carabao Cup and went on to win the final against Chelsea on penalties.The Carabao Cup success began the talks of Liverpool winning the quadruple.

As the season continues, Jurgen Klopp and his mentality monsters kept on winning matches so they could close down Manchester City.While in the UCL, Liverpool went past the round of 16 defeating inter Milan, knocking out Benfica in the quarterfinals and putting on an impressive comeback against Villareal in the semi final and also making it to the UCL final for the third time under Jurgen Klopp.Not quite long did Liverpool FC booked their spot in the fa cup final against Chelsea for the second time this season.Jurgen Klopp and his boys came out victorious in the fa cup final, making it 2 out of 4.The chance to win the quadruple continued to grow stronger.

After winning the FA Cup, Liverpool closed down the point to Manchester City in the league.By May, Liverpool were one point behind Manchester City and this was because Manchester City dropped some point, which gave Liverpool FC the opportunity to close down the gap to Manchester City.As the football’ season comes to an end, the EPL is set to be decided on the last day of the season.For Liverpool to win the EPL, they require Steven Gerrard, Aston Villa side to stop Manchester City.Meanwhile, Liverpool needed to defeat wolves on the final day of the season.The final day of the season was upon us,we saw Aston Villa almost causing an upset against Manchester City, but the citizens showed their supremacy as they came from behind to defeat Aston Villa and lift their fourth EPL title in 5 year’s.While at Anfield, Liverpool did the needful by defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1.So Liverpool hopes of winning the quadruple ended and a chance of winning the treble presented itself to Liverpool by defeating Real Madrid in the UCL final.Sadly, Liverpool chance of winning the UCL ended in disappointment as they lost the final against Real Madrid after dominating most part of the game.Despite losing the EPL and UCL, the Season was a success.In February it was all about winning the quadruple,in May it was about settling with the double trophy they had gotten.

After losing the UCL final, Jurgen Klopp was quick to respond that his team would come back stronger next season and make the finals.To Liverpool fans it has been a successful season despite not winning the UCL nor the EPL title.They will look to improve next season and compete for the EPL and UCL next season.
